RELIGION--GOD AS OUR FATHER, JESUS AND HIS TEACHINGS, MARY AS OUR MOTHER, THE 10 COMMANDMENTS, SACRAMENTS, AND SPECIAL HOLIDAYS/FEAST DAYS WILL ALL BE COVERED THIS YEAR.
Reading--We will work hard on phonics, sounding out words, identifying sounds, blending words, practicing and learning new vocabulary high-frequency words. We will also read lots of stories and work on comprehension and fluency. Beginning October, the Pizza Hut Book-It program begins. Students who meet their monthly reading goal will receive a certificate good for a free personal pan pizza! WooHoo! It is my hope that parents read with your child at least 20 minutes each night. Our Reading Counts program is ongoing as students choose books at their level to read, take a test, and earn points for rewards. Information/updates will be sent home often.
Grammar--We will work on building sentences, identifying parts of speech--nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, etc. We will also work on handwriting and writing short stories.
Spelling--Weekly words that coincide with the stories we read are the main idea with spelling. Writing their words, as well as other activities, will help kiddos learn the new words.
Math--I work hard on math skills, too. We will review patterns, shapes, and counting. Students will work on addition, subtraction, fractions, problem solving, money. We do alot of this during calendar time as well.
Science--Ms. Lund will teach science to the first graders on Mondays and Fridays. I will teach kindergarten Religion at this time.
Social Studies--Scholastic News and Time 4 Kids will be used to learn about the world around us. We will learn more about our town, state, and other parts of the country.
Students will also have Art weekly. Mr. Fuiten will teach P.E. Thank you, thank you! Unfortunately, there is no structured Music this year, but I will do my best to play music, do Go Noodle (brain break) activities that involve music and dance/wiggle movements. I will also try to take them to the Computer Lab once a week. They can probably help me learn a few things! Students will also go to library once a week.
